DESCRIPTION:
French, OARSMAN automaton timepiece, C.1885, a bronze sailboat setting on a nest of waves [also bronze], with the lone boatman rowing the boat due to lack of wind. The oarsman is suspended on a tri-leaf "swinger" type suspension, and the assembly is a compound pendulum, with a threaded bob at the bottom for adjustment.
CONDITION:
the red marble base has been restored and painted black underneath [some time ago], otherwise everything appears to be in good original condition. Dial of the clock bears the name of the retailer: "Dibdin & Co., Ltd, 189 Sloane St, SW1" (London) Note clock has been displayed near the ocean and the minute hand has rusted {no other major rust}.
